POSITION PURPOSE:  Assists pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintain patient records.  Lead technician’s work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.  They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.


  •  Directs and delegates duties to pharmacy technicians under the direction of the supervisor
  • Reports directly to the supervisor all pertinent information from shift.
  • Procures and distributes medication orders per physician request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols
  •  Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures.
  • Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department
  • Participates in the quality improvement activities of the department
  • Maintains competence required for current job title/position
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.


  • Current pharmacy technician certification and Texas license
  • High school diploma or equivalent.  College courses desirable.
  • Minimum 3 years hospital pharmacy technician experience
  • Sterile compounding certification
