POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Healthcare Data Analyst will work as part of the Business Intelligence Department team to provide data and reporting to support IHA's pursuit of the Triple Aim (high quality, low cost, improved population health).  The Healthcare Data Analyst will compile, analyze and interpret large datasets to produce actionable reporting and insight. This position will create analyses, reports, documentation, and presentations to share data and summarized results with a wide variety of audiences. The position will help develop, support and maintain a data warehouse containing multiple types of healthcare data.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.       Answer analytic questions to support data-driven decision making using multiple data sources, including EMR, registry and payer claims data.

2.       Create reports, documentation and presentations that clearly state data findings and communicate results to a wide variety of internal customers.

3.       Use various data analytic and reporting tools, including query tools (Access, SQL, etc), Excel, and interactive business intelligence products (Tableau, Power BI).

4.       Work with technical team to build data warehouse, includes writing specifications, validating datasets and troubleshooting data warehouse issues.

5.       Work with leadership, staff and providers to translate project data needs into report specifications.

6.       Summarize and interpret data received through participation in payer or multi-stakeholder program activities.

7.       Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:  Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

CREDENTIALS/LICENSURE:  N/A

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:  1-3 years data analysis experience required, healthcare analytics experience preferred.

 

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS (ABILITIES & SKILLS):

1.       Experience using a data query tool.

2.       Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal forms.

3.       Knowledgeable or willing to learn in self-directed manner about healthcare codesets (ICD-20, CPT) and performance measurement (quality, cost and utilization metrics).

4.       Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

5.       Ability to work effectively with various levels of organizational members and diverse populations including IHA staff, senior management group, site medical directors, division heads, providers, patients, family members, outside customers, vendors, hospitals and community groups.

6.       Good organizational and time management skills to effectively juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

7.       Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement, trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills, i.e. reporting error and identifying solutions to correct issues.

8.       Knowledge of the compliance constraints of using healthcare data.

9.       Ability to handle patient and organizational information in a confidential manner.

10.    Ability to drive to other office/practice sites and meeting and training locations.

11.    Successful completion of IHA competency-based program within introductory and training period. 

 

 

MINIMUM PHYSICAL EXPECTATIONS:

1.       Physical activity that often requires extensive time working on a computer.

2.       Physical activity that occasionally requires lifting up to 20 lbs.

3.       Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust and focus. 

4.       Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment.

5.       Must hear and speak well enough to conduct business over the telephone or face to face for long periods of time in English.

 

 

MINIMUM ENVIRONMENTAL EXPECTATIONS:

This job operates within a typical office environment which involves frequent interruptions and significant interaction with people which can be stressful at times.
