The Special Program Coordinator Counselor participates in the operations of the Medical Help Desk. The RNs at the Medical Help Desk field all questions of donor eligibility. They also resolve all donor issues regarding donor complaints, injuries and reactions. The coordinator oversees all aspects of internal and external customer service issues, medical clearance of donors and product disposition. Serves as the NMDP (National Marrow Donor Program) Donor Center Coordinator.
NMDP coordination includes recruitment of donors, search activities for matched donors and fiscal responsibilities. • Conduct Information/Counseling Sessions with prospective donors and obtain written informed consent • Schedule physical exams and blood collections as required • Complete all NMDP forms and submit in required timeframes • Administer Neupogen injections to stem cell donors • Manage all activities of the Bone Marrow Program Assistant • Approve recruitment requests for blood drives with NMDP typing • Write SOPs for all NMDP processes and protocols • Act as courier for stem cell products • Perform annual follow-up of stem cell donors, including an interview, documentation and form submission
Participates in the day-to-day operations of the Medical Help Desk. • Participates in on-call rotation • Answers medical eligibility questions, often consulting the Medical Director and the Quality Department. • Initiates the Donor Problem reports and follows up including injuries, reactions and customer service complaints. • Participates with Director for budget planning and preparation for NMDP, and Medical Help Desk
Responsible for the Quality Assurance monitoring of the NMDP, Medical Help Desk. • Review monthly QA reports • Report at monthly and quarterly meetings • Investigate deviations from thresholds, implement and evaluate corrective action
Performs daily tasks of Donor Counselor. • notifies donors and physicians of abnormal test results in • compliance with all regulations • Reviews Donor Records of deferred donors and or donors with questionable medical histories to access the impact on previous products. • Resolution of duplicate donors
Requirements: -PA Registered Nursing license -Minimum 5 years blood banking experience -Proficiency with the SafeTrace computer system -1 year supervisory experience preferred
