Indiana University Health has exciting nursing opportunities in the Plastic Surgery Department. 

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Effective with new hires post 02.13.11, requires that the RN has graduated from a nursing program accredited through the ACEN or CCNE.
  • Licensure is considered minimal competence for all RN positions unless an event of error occurs.
  • Must have the ability to frequently work in a standing position for extended periods of time (up to beyond 4 continuous hours) and do frequent walking.
  • Must have the ability to lift and transfer patients up to 6 inches from stooped position then pushing or pulling the weight up to 3 feet.
  • Must have the ability to lift and transfer patients from a stooped to an upright position to accomplish bed to chair and chair to bed transfers, minimally 50 pounds singly and estimated 100-350 pounds with assistance from multiple sources.
  • Must have the ability to physically apply up to 10 pounds of pressure to bleeding sites, or in performing CPR.
  • Must have the ability to analytically evaluate problem situations in depth and come to independent, appropriate conclusions. Must have the ability to use independent judgment and discretion.
  • Must have the ability to perform mathematical calculations in medication preparation and administration.
  • Must have the ability to manage several assignments simultaneously and appropriately prioritize and delegate based on caseload and patient needs.
  • Must have the ability and capacity to document in clear and concise fashion with appropriate grammar and word usage.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families and/or significant others, physicians, co-workers, supervisors and other hospital personnel on a one-to-one basis using appropriate grammar, vocabulary and word usage.
  • Must have the ability to respond and react immediately with unimpeded auditory perception of verbal/vocal instructions and auditory auscultation.
  • Must have the ability to respond and react to visual observation.
  • Must be or have the ability to achieve outcomes with respect to the coordinating of patient care activities with others; patient teaching/discharge planning needs; supervising, directing and evaluating patient care given by nursing associates as assigned.
  • Must have the ability to quickly and accurately manipulate a keyboard.
  • Must have the ability to learn and proficiently perform computer applications related to department operations.
  • Must have the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must have the ability to delegate & accept delegation.
  • Must have the ability to push and pull patients and associated equipment when transporting.
  • Must have the ability to perform the basic patient lifting through in-service for proper technique when transporting.
  • Must have the ability to walk at a very fast pace while transporting patients from one area to another in critical situations.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Indiana; or current licensure as a registered nurse in another state with evidence of application for Indiana licensure.
  • Requires certification as a registered nurse first assist (CRNFA).
  • RN starting employment without this credential will be required to complete their CRNFA within 2 years from date of hire into this job.
