Position Summary

IU Health Bloomington's Professional Staff Development & Innovation Department (PSDI) focuses on the growth, development, and education of nursing and support professionals in addition to being key resources for orientation and continuing education. The incumbent will collaborate with clinical leadership and team members across departments to plan, develop, implement, facilitate, and evaluate educational programming congruent with the mission, vision, and values of IU Health. This department is known for an encouraging and flexible environment coupled with the opportunity to educate, research, lead, and incite positive change in an organization dedicated to values and quality care delivery. This position is weekend option, two 8 hours shifts Sat-Sun and one 8 hour shift M-F with flexibility during the hours of 5pm-3:30am. Incumbent will support first year nursing/PCA development and assist in bridging the experience-complexity gap. Units will in include all Med/Surg, Behavioral Health, and Inpatient rehab units at IUH Bloomington Hospital

Requirements/Skills

 

  • Requires current state of Indiana license as Registered Nurse.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor's of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nursing program accredited through the ACEN or CCNE. New ASN RNs hired after January 1, 2013 will be required to complete their BSN within five (5) years from date of hire into this job.
  • Requires prior experience in and strong knowledge of area of clinical specialty.
  • Requires efficient organizational skills and tactful communication skills.
  • Requires great attention to detail and critical thinking skills.
  • Requires ability to problem solve and directs follow-up information to appropriate parties.
  • Requires ability to prioritize and maintain a high degree of efficiency in dealing with a variety of changing situations and tasks.
  • Requires high degree of concentration and ability to work under critical time pressures.
  • Requires continual self-assessment and work to advance personal clinical skills.
  • Requires previous teaching/education experience; and knowledge of the teaching-learning process and the principles of adult education.
  • Requires ability to provide clinical reasoning; decision-making and clinical thinking.
  • Requires ability to promote compassion and a therapeutic environment.
  • Requires ability to provide multiple forms of communication (presence; touch; eye contact; etc.) .
  • Requires ability to recognize and appreciate cultural diversity at many levels.
  • Requires ability to provide high level of patient confidentiality.
  • Requires strong written and verbal communications skills at the staff; patient and family levels.
  • Requires ability to actively seek educational opportunities to improve clinical practice.
