Reports to department management. Responsible for designing, implementing and evaluating lactation programs, services and support through the provision of patient/family education, support and hands on instruction for breast-feeding initiatives and lactation support.  Provision of lactation services, support, care and education to community groups and personnel.  Patient/family instruction in prevention and wellness initiative to support healthcare needs. Functions in a variety of clinical and non-clinical roles to support personnel functions within the practice. May support and maintain quality patient care for the provision of services to provide for medical service support.  Functions under the direction and supervision of a licensed healthcare provider (MD, NP, RN, LPN) during performance of clinical services and tasks.  Serves as a resource for personnel regarding specific job functions, promotion of knowledge and communication. Performs other duties as assigned.


Experience, Education and Training Minimum: Current  IBCLC certification as a lactation consultant with one to three years' experience working in the field.  Maintain updated knowledge of lactation services by obtaining a minimum of 20 hours per year of documented CEU's related to lactation services.  Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice preferred.  Maintains current licensure as an LPN as necessaryCPR Training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
