Under the general direction of the Department Director/Manager, performs noninvasive echocardiography diagnostic testing on pediatric, fetal and adult patients with ability to identify normal and congenital heart malformations as well as repaired and unrepaired anatomy. Assesses ultrasound images for identification of problem areas for focused review of images and data. Identifies which images to record to film for physician review. Provides echocardiography services following established policies, procedures and regulations.  Educates patients and families.  Oversees the daily operation of echocardiograph services and equipment.  Participates in research projects.  Initiates on-going quality assurance.  Assists with creating and updating echocardiograph policies and procedures.  Ensures continuing education requirements are met.  Demonstrates knowledge of noninvasive cardiac diagnostic testing as well as operation and maintenance of equipment including electrocardiograms, Holter monitor application and screening, and exercise stress testing.  Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 Experience, Education and Training Minimum: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) in Pediatric Echocardiography by The American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS)  by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) (www.cci-online.org ) required or registry eligible and obtainment of registration within 12 months of employment.  Cardiac ultrasound experience preferred. Knowledge of ultrasound techniques/principles and procedures as well as operation and maintenance of sonographic equipment normally acquired through completion of six to twelve months in an approved cardiac ultrasound training program beyond two years of post-high school education in an allied health field, required. Knowledge of noninvasive cardiac diagnostic testing as well as operation and maintenance of equipment including electrocardiograms, Holter monitor application and screening, event monitoring and exercise stress testing. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with patients/families, nursing personnel and physicians. Analytical skills necessary to effectively detect pathologies based on knowledge of physiological cause and effect of diseases and clinical procedures. CPR Training required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire. Ability to Travel.
