Under direct departmental supervision, and following established policies, procedures and regulations, assists with various technical procedures, and performs skills including but not limited to establishing IV access, phlebotomy, specimen collection, splint application, and transporting of patients. Responsible for providing assistance in routine patient care and medically related administrative support activities in the Emergency Department.
Experience, Education and Training Minimum: Certification under state of Virginia requirements as an EMT-I or EMT-P required. NREMT-P (Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic), preferred. Must have current certification relevant to position description upon hire. Competency must be maintained through on-the-job training and education. Ability to interpret type and level of patient care ordered. Provide a variety of clinical treatments. Understand and follow instructions relating to basic patient care. ACLS and PALS certification required upon hire. ITLS preferred.
