Assist the physicians/providers with the examination and treatment of patients and perform routine clinical and administrative tasks required to ensure the practice runs smoothly; participate in the planning and evaluation of patient care. Services pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations.
1. Education and/or experience commensurate with 12 months experience within a medical setting (e.g., physician office, clinic, or hospital) preferred. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered.
2. Minimum of 6 months customer service experience preferred.
3. First Aid, Healthcare Provider CPR required.
4. Knowledge of: computer systems; medical software and applications; multi-line phone systems; medical office procedures; health care regulations; medical terminology; and phlebotomy preferred.
5. Knowledge of equipment, supplies, and instruments used in a medical office preferred.
6. Ability to learn, understand, and comply with: universal blood and body fluid precautions; OSHA rules and regulations; CLIA; established protocol for storing poisons, narcotics, acids, caustics, and flammable items; restrictions imposed by various managed care carriers, various forms inherent to profession; patient confidentiality regulations.
7. Ability to communicate effectively and maintain cooperative relationships with providers, staff members, and patients.
8. Ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with patients and co-workers.
9. Proven ability to read and follow written and oral medical orders and evaluate appropriate patient care.
1. Performs necessary duties within the scope of education and experience.
2. Performs and documents initial response screenings which may include a physical, psychosocial, and spiritual assessment of assigned patients using all available sources of information and incorporating the patient’s perception of illness/condition.
3. Assists provider with examinations and procedures as directed in accordance with established organizational standards.
4. Under the direct supervision of a physician, a Medical Assistant I prepares and administers specified medications and injections as allowed by organizational standards.
5. Responds to a changing workload in a positive and professional manner by: remaining calm, making objective assessments, prioritizing, and asking for assistance when appropriate. Problem solves issues affecting patient care.
6. Transcribes and implements physician orders and treatments accurately and efficiently in verbal and written format as noted by chart reviews and observation.
7. Adheres to infection control guidelines as well as policies and procedures. Washes hands before and after each patient encounter. Cleans, packages, sterilizes, and maintains ample supply of sterilized instruments and supplies for procedures. Thoroughly cleans exam rooms, counter, and table tops, per clinic policy. Collects, packages, and accurately labels all specimens immediately upon receipt; forwards to designated lab(s) according to established protocols.
8. Assists with multiple office duties to ensure customer service. Such duties include, but are not limited to: greets patients and escort them to the exam/procedure rooms; triages patient telephone calls and provides education; makes appointments for patients with specialists; schedules hospital admissions, outside ancillary tests and procedures as directed; records services rendered in EMR system and checks for accuracy; electronic filing; and telephone answering
9. Adheres to and follows organization policies and procedures.
