PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Essential job functions/listing all physical and mental demands of the job are as follows:

 

Assumes responsibility of coordinating hospital activities on evening, night, weekend, or holiday shifts.

 

- Oversees and/or coordinates all activities within the hospital.

- Interprets hospital philosophy, objectives, and policy changes for co-workers, patients, and visitors.

- Make recommendations to the Unit Manager regarding staffing patterns and/or requirements.

- Makes recommendations / feedback regarding performance and/or effectiveness in the patient care setting and communicates them to the Unit Manager or Executive Director.

- Functions as a liaison between Department of Patient Care Services, other departments, and outside agencies using effective communication.

- Monitors Employee Health needs while on duty i.e., employee accidents and exposures.

- Demonstrates understanding of the roles of all members of the health team and identifies the competence level of shift personnel.

 - Visits unit to evaluate care and condition of patients, bed status, personnel assignments, to help expedite transfer/discharges and problem solve as needed.

- Maintains communication with all patient care areas in order to identify, direct, and evaluate patient needs and those of nursing staff.

- Maintains confidentiality of staff and patients.

- Serves in advisory assisting role in regard to hospital functions, policies, procedures, and physicians.

- Responds and evaluates complaints and concerns and directs appropriate personnel.

- Notify “on call” personnel as needed.

- Participates and coordinates activities in all emergency calls as needed and makes appropriate reports.

- Performs patient rounding on all newly admitted patients during weekday shifts and daily rounding on all in-patients during weekend shifts.

- Completes and distributes administrative report at the completion of each shift.

- Demonstrates understanding of patient criteria for admission:

- Understands patient’s clinical picture for admission.

- Obtains proper information from physicians and ER staff.

 

 

Required:

 

Driver’s License

RN License in State of Indiana

CPR

ACLS

PALS

Emergency Nursing Experience

 

Preferred:

 

NRP

TNCC

ENPC

 

 

Required

1.         Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in the state of Indiana.

2.         Demonstrated competencies in the nursing profession.

3.         Baccalaureate degree or currently working towards obtaining.

4.         Three (3) years of successful experience as staff nurse, charge nurse.

5.         Demonstrated ability in nursing practices, nursing leadership, and personnel management.

6.         Accepts accountability for own actions and actions of other colleagues within patient care areas.

7.         Ability to make decisions or evaluations without specific guidelines.

8.         Ability to influence others using refined interpersonal skills.

9.         Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional growth through education programs.

10.       Knowledge in the use of online systems.

11.       Basic typing and keypunch skills.

12.       Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, attendance, punctuality and personal appearance.

13.       Ability to react calmly and effectively in busy or emergency situations.

14.       Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.

15.       Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone and in writing.

16.       Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, management and peers.
