  • Summary:

    Daily cleaning and supplying patient rooms, wards, nursing stations, lounges, lavatories, bathrooms, offices and any other areas assigned in accordance with Hospital objectives.  Will use cleaning devices including 12 oz. wet mops, small wringers, dusters, household type vacuum cleaners and other necessary tools, products and supplies.


    Level of education equivalent to a high school diploma 

    Prior experience required

    Ability to read and communicate in English

    Ability to understand the use of and use cleaning compounds

    Standing, walking, stretching, pushing and pulling regularly in the performance of duties

    Job Duties:

    The following criteria identify duties to describe the principal functions of the job and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all work requirements that may be inherent in the position.

    Performs cleaning functions in assigned areas following established schedules and using prescribed methods

    Dusts horizontal surfaces that collect dust

    Empties wastebaskets, removes trash to holding area

    Damp-wipes clean all furniture and surfaces, cleans and polishes metal and porcelain fixtures in bathroom

    Dries and wet-mops floors of rooms and offices, spot cleans walls, windows and polishes metal surfaces

    Checks all patient rooms, utility areas, locker rooms, and paper and soap dispensers daily

    Replenishes supplies as necessary

    Checks all needle boxes daily and changes inserts when ¾ full as per policy

    Spot cleans carpets as necessary

    Performs discharge cleaning as indicated on schedule and in accordance with discharge procedure

    Strips and remakes beds completely

    Washes bed, chairs, bedside table, over-bed table with germicide detergent solution

    When unit is complete and ready for occupancy, initial and time discharge sheet at nursing station

    Assist in cleaning of emergency spills, observed and upon request. Policies all corridors and public areas during the shift

    Maintains assigned equipment for cleanliness and reports any problems to the supervisor

    Observes and reports equipment needed repair

    In case of a fires or other internal disaster or community disaster, performs duties assigned

    Demonstrates a commitment to the Hospital philosophy on guest relations

    Keeps current on depart and Hospital policies and procedures

    Physical Demands:

    Must be able to sit, stand, walk and talk most of the time; stoop, kneel, or crouch occasionally

    Must be able to use hands to finger, grasp and feel

    Ability to lift up to 35 pounds occasionally

    Vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

    Must be able to clearly recognize alarms, understand and follow calls and instructions

    Work Environment:

    Hospital setting with varying degrees of noise level and activity

    Must be able to work where toxic chemicals may be present
