Trauma Unit (4W): Typical RN/Patient ratio: 1:4-5; and 24-28 beds; caring for our trauma patients. Trauma patients are cared from as transferred from our Level II Trauma ER or from our Trauma ICU. Complex care often with multiple systems affected by the trauma incident is needed for these patients and their families. Most frequently seen injuries are from Motor Vehicles Crashes followed by Motorcycle Crashes. Other injuries cared for include ATV, Falls, Horseback riding, Gun shot, Stabbing, and Assault injuries. Skilled care includes tracheostomies, chest tubes, external & internal fixations, cervical collars and wound vacs. RN's gain critical thinking experience as well as enhancement of their nursing skills on our Trauma unit.


·   Preferred:


·   Required: Must be knowledgeable of nursing process and its application to patient care.  Must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential job function and satisfactorily demonstrate required competencies in the care of patients, including department-specific and age-specific competencies.  Must practice safe critical thinking skills and make appropriate judgments/decisions re: patient care.  Current knowledge of the nursing role and scope of practice as defined by Florida Professional Regulation.  Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills; effective verbal and written communication; positive customer service.  




·   Preferred:   BSN


·   Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.




·   Preferred:  Previous experience in an acute care patient setting preferred.


·   Required: None required if normally scheduled to work at least 40 hours per pay period.  (If STEP or PTD and normally scheduled to work less than 40 hrs/pay period, must have minimum of one year full time experience in acute care hospital.)  May require previous experience for PACU, OR, ED, L&D, Radiology and Critical Care.  All RNs in the Resource Pool and the PILB (pay in lieu of benefits) position require a minimum of one year recent acute care experience.




·   Preferred: Certification in specialty.


·   Required: Current license as Registered Nurse in Florida.  The following certifications for specific departments are required: Resource Pool and PILB:  ACLS, PALS or similar certification within one year; Critical Care RNs must complete ACLS by the end of orientation period.  All RNs must complete 15 contact hours of education annually.  Certifications:  Per department or hospital requirements and relevant policies
