Job Details:
  • Associates Degree Preferred
  • Minimum 1 year experience preferred
  • Abstracts and appropriately codes medical information, correctly applying current coding guidelines.  Reviews information for completeness and accuracy of documentation. Confirms DRG and APC assignment, utilizing all available resources to assure optimal reimbursement while maintaining the integrity of the code assignment. Responsible for accurate and timely coding of medical information for reporting, case mix and reimbursement purposes. Pays careful attention to details and maintains qualitative standards according to departmental standards established. Responsible for timely and accurate data collection for reporting, case mix and reimbursement purposes. Monitors changes with LCD and NCD’s to assist in decreasing medical necessity denials. Responsible for maintaining productivity standards set forth in the Coding Compliance Plan.

     

    Qualifications/Competencies:

    • INPATIENT CODING EXPERIENCE STRONGLY DESIRED
    • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA); Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) strongly preferred.
    • Associate’s degree in Health Information Technology, Health Information Management, Medical Secretarial Science or Nursing preferred.
    • 1 year experience preferred
    • Extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and pharmacology.
    • Familiarity with encoders and groupers
    • Proficiency in a suite of Microsoft Office applications
