Job Details:
  • Has primary responsibility for screening and determination of eligibility for MaineGeneral Medical Center (MGMC) and MaineGeneral Physician Practice (MGPP) patients for various financial assistance programs.  Responsible for filing Medicaid/MaineCare applications on behalf of MGMC patients, making determinations of eligibility for uncompensated care and for referrals to Care Partners or other financial assistance programs.   Makes calls or uses online software to verify coverage, benefits and special billing instructions with insurance carriers.  Captures referral and authorization information or facilitates the initiation of that process where appropriate. Responsible for processing uncompensated care applications for eligibility; preparing accounts for proper approval and signatures for resolution.

     

    Qualifications/Competencies:

    • CPAT, CCAT or CRCR preferred
    • Technical training beyond high school, normally acquired through completion of an Associate’s degree or 3-5 years of related experience preferred3 years or more, in healthcare setting (Physician or Business Office, Registration/Pt Access or Scheduling Department, Billing or other related physician practice or revenue cycle experience preferred)
    • Excellent and demonstrated customer service skills including negotiating skills.
    •  Excellent and demonstrated communication skills including telephone, listening, written and oral.
    • Excellent and demonstrated problem solving, analytical and basic mathematical skills.
    •  Understanding of revenue cycle processes and work flows.
    •  Ability to work independently, with initiative and as a team member.
    • Proficiency in a suite of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel
    • Medical terminology – familiarity with ICD9/10, CPT4 and DRG codes as well as hospital charging, billing and follow-up processes.
    •  Knowledge of State of Maine eligibility guidelines for Medicaid, strongly preferred
