Summary:

The Nurse Manager has the responsibility for the day to day activities within the Nursing Department.  This leader oversees the provision of nursing care to assure that safe, evidenced based patient care is provided to each patient served.   The Nurse Manager is responsible for the  facilitation of a patient-focused, team oriented culture, working in collaboration with all other medical, clinical and therapeutic disciplines to ensure optimal service and superior outcomes.

 

As a key member of the leadership team at Mary Free Bed, the Nurse Manager contributes to organizational planning and performance improvement.  As directed by the Director of Nursing, the Nurse Manager may sit on committees impacting quality improvement, patient safety, and infection control as well as others as assigned.  By invitation, the Nurse Manager presents key items and participate in discussions with Management Council. 

 

Essential Job Qualifications:

  • Licensure Requirements: Registered nurse in the state of Michigan.
  • Education:  Bachelor’s degree in nursing is required. Masters Degree in nursing, health care administration, business, or a related field is preferred.   
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of two years of relevant nursing management experience is required.
    • Accurate decision-making and strong leadership skills.  Ability to manage a group of employees including identification of performance goals and completion of detailed performance reviews. Strong collaborative skills.
    • Ability to implement and evaluate a budget for a nursing department and manage resource utilization to perform within the budget.
    • Time management and organizational skills
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills
    • Information management skills and ability to interpret, communicate, and present data.
    • Excellent computer skills with specific emphasis on Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. 
  • Physical Demands/Work Environment:  The work environment described here are representative of those an employee will encounter while working as a Nurse Manager/ Assistant Director of Nursing Services at Mary Free Bed.  The ability to perform these tasks are required:
    • Required to stand, sit, talk, type, read, and hear
    • Required to use hands and arms to handle, feel, carry and work
    • Required to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, and rise from a kneeling position
    • Required to be independently mobile, with frequent bending, and reaching overhead
    • Must be able to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects(*). 
    • Due to possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens and hazardous materials, must be able to understand and follow department policies related to employee safety.
    • Must be competent with computer systems for the purpose of documenting patient care.
