VCU Health System's Client Services is seeking a full time MT Supervisor CS/ Outreach. The MT Supervisor-CS/Outreach monitors all aspects of outreach operations, including daily supervision and oversight for the Client Services Call Center. Monitors the metrics for client services call center; tallies the patient service center surveys and metrics for services provided as required by contracts with third party payors; reviews invoices for purchased courier services; helps develop plan to bring courier services in house; assists the manager in creating the Outreach annual budget; monitors expenses; pays invoices; performs the ordering; oversees the inventory of supplies; etc. Assists the manager in tracking the status of contracts referred to the VCUHS administration and legal counsel for a timely response. Directly supervises MTs, couriers and Phlebotomy staff who support the Operation. Attends Pathology QA meetings and collates and reports continuing education for all staff as well as tracking issues for outreach services. Works with the computer support analyst and LIS to monitor referral volumes from accounts and assists in setting timelines for monthly changes. Other marketing efforts include assisting the manager and the web page developer in the development of a robust client services webpage for customers to use including on-line surveys for market segments. Works with the manager, CIS and finance to establish the need for an external billing system that will support the program needs to ensure the long term growth and success of the program.



Knowledge of clinical laboratory industry trends and competitive market as they apply to the business operation of Outreach.

Analytical skills to review budget and monitor expenses.

Creative skills and extensive computer knowledge to develop literature to promote services.

Exceptional oral/written communication skills for preparing and responding to proposals.

Understanding of complex regulatory environment for industry related to compliance, medical necessity, JCAHO, HIPAA, OSHA and IATA standards.

Self motivated and committed to exceptional performance and customer service.

Analytical and financial management skills for reasoning and problem solving.

Excellent organizational skills to develop effective sales strategy and handle multiple tasks at same time.

Works in conjunction with the Outreach Manager to train sales, client service, phlebotomy and courier staff in exceptional customer service skills. Responsible for coaching and mentoring employees in pathology to understand the goals of the program and the employee's role in supporting the outreach program. Provides input and work with mangers and directors on the Directory of Services. Serves as Liaison from the Outreach Program with hospital patient accounting, finance, compliance, legal counsel and administration.

Must have the personal ambition, desire, and self-motivation to work as many hours as needed to measure the budget, expense, and business income to ensure that the program achieves the sales objectives for the program and the department.





Bachelors Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (BSCLS) from an accredited program

Valid driver's license and acceptable drivers' record

Current MT(ASCP) or MLS(ASCP) or CLS(NCA) or equivalent categorical certification*
*Certification not required but strongly encouraged if hired before January 2007

Minimum of four (4) years of clinical work experience as a Medical Technologist with at least three (3) years in a leadership role (senior/lead level) with increased responsibility



Masters Degree in Clinical Lab Science (MSCLS) from an accredited program

ASCP Specialty Certification
