Meadville Medical Center is hiring for a Med/Surge/Behavioral Health Float Registered Nurse (RN) job to work full-time, days, evenings & nights with shift and weekend rotation on our Medical Surgical Unit (Med/Surg). We are offering a $10,000 Sign-On Bonus.
The Med/Surge/Behavioral Health Float Registered Nurse (RN) reports pertinent observations, changes, and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person (physician, manager, charge nurse, supervisor, etc.) Records these observations, changes and reactions accurately, concisely and legibly. Plans, implements and documents health teaching with patient and/or significant other. Notifies supervisor/manager, charge nurse, and/or physician of observations, changes and reactions regarding patients. Documentation on patient record of observations, changes and reactions and the reporting of them to the appropriate person (physician, supervisor/manager, charge nurse etc.) Communicates patient's condition at change of shift in concise manner. Completes transfer form and calls report to receiving facility. Documents on patient record the health teaching planned and implemented with patient and/or significant other. Initiates teaching. Conducts "hourly rounds" on assigned patients consistently. Focus is on safety of patients through fall reduction, restraint reduction and the safe administration of medications. Cognizant of and addresses the patient's level of comfort and pain management. Expresses concern and understanding regarding patient and family satisfaction. Assesses the patient's condition and nursing needs. Based on those conditions and needs, develops and implements individual plan of care with revisions as patient's condition and needs change. Nursing assessment completed upon admission to the unit and complete immunization and pain assessment. Develops and implements a nursing plan of care according to patient's assessed needs. Revises care plan as condition needs change and updates daily. Maintains the standards of nursing care within the guidelines of the nursing department. Demonstrates knowledge of standards of nursing care when implementing the plan of care. Directs, supervises and evaluates nursing care provided to the patients and administers direct care, by using professional nursing skills and judgments as required. Includes pain assessment, interventions, and re-assessment. Directs and supervises other team members. Confers with other team members about patient's condition. Documents patient's condition as needed on patient record. Provides direct professional nursing care. Participates in Unit Q.A. Assists physicians with patient rounds, procedures, and exams. Documentation on patient record. Transcribes physician orders accurately and legibly. Observation of accuracy and legibility. Uses appropriate abbreviations. Documented oral orders - repeated is present as well as date, time and signature. Administers medications, including IV's according to hospital policy and procedure. Observed administering and documenting medications according to hospital procedure. Inserts IV's as ordered and documents appropriately on patient record. Documentation of Blood Administration and consent - meet policy and procedure including tubing change and central line care. Correct usage of Omnicell and documentation of wasted narcotics. Adhere to Patient Safety Goals of medication administration. Demonstrates cost-conscious use of supplies; maintains equipment in a clean and safe manner. Demonstrates responsibility for containment of hospital costs and conservation of supplies and equipment. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility for overtime and patient charges. Participates in the orientation of new staff and in the clinical experience of students. Observed providing direction to new staff, students, and/or volunteers. Attends unit meetings, other meetings, reads notices and memos. Participates in nursing service councils. Special computer skills utilized. Proper care plan updating. Proper utilization of order entry.
Med/Surge/Behavioral Health Float Registered Nurse (RN) Education and Experience Requirements:

<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Two years minimum med/surg floor experience but two to five years preferred
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->High recommendations from manager and/or good references
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Must be willing to work Medical, Surgical, Transitional Care, Rehab, and IPMH or Stepping Stones units
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Willing to work all three shifts knowing that the off shifts may be predominant
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Staffing assignments will be determined by the house nursing supervisor in conjunction with the nurse managers

<!--[if !supportLists]-->o <!--[endif]-->Provide instruction to the patient and/or significant other; provide explanations to the patient and/or significant other and; explain nursing intervention.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Within one year of being in the position, must complete the Trauma Nursing Core Certification (TNCC). Thereafter, must complete 8 hours of trauma continuing education annually
Must complete 8 hours of stroke education within 6 months of being in the position and obtain NIH stroke certification prior to the completion of orientation in the position. Thereafter, must complete four hours of stroke education annually. Must maintain NIH stroke certification, annually.
