Your Job: 

The Manager – The Improvement Academy will develop and maintain a professional performance improvement learning organization on par with the highest performing healthcare systems.  The Academy will provide education for healthcare leaders on subjects to include [but not limited to] quality, patient safety, change leadership, performance outcomes, analytics, process design/re-design and performance improvement.  Educational content will be designed and deployed in an effort to equip employees, physicians, executives, and other key stakeholders with the skills and strategies needed to support and lead performance and quality improvement initiatives.

The Manager will be involved in a wide range of projects in areas including: organizational readiness, the journey to Baldrige, cultural integration of patient safety and quality methodology, clinical risk management and performance outcomes.  

Your Job Requirements:

  • Graduate degree in Leadership, Education, or related field
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in education, project management, or related field
  • LSS Green Belt Certification or equivalent process improvement certification
  • Ability to obtain LSS Black Belt [or equivalent] within 2 years of hire
  • Experience in professional instruction/teaching/training; professional certification preferred
  • Experience developing and delivering curriculum and instructional materials
  • Experience in a healthcare environment, including multi-site systems
  • Experience leading direct reports
  • Ability to motivate and engage system and entity leaders, staff and physicians through influence rather than authority.
  • Experience, professional presence, and flexibility to work effectively with and provide coaching to individuals at all levels of the organization through establishing credibility and building positive relationships.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, facilitation, and consultative skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; managing multiple program components simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and possess initiative when carrying through assignments.
  • Ability to react quickly to a fast paced, changing work environment with problem solving, analytical skills and critical thinking.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of performance improvement methodologies, tools, and techniques.
  • Solid working knowledge of MS Office Suite, including Visio.

Your Job Responsibilities:

Education & Curriculum Development

  • Develop and deploy educational content/programs to support key strategic organizational initiatives (i.e. quality, patient safety, high reliability, etc.) across the system
  • Develop and deploy a progressive educational learning program for advancing the use of performance improvement methodology from the most basic [PDSA] to advanced [DMAIC, Lean, etc.] levels in collaboration with the Mayo Clinic Quality Academy leadership
  • Develop and deploy educational content for physicians, residents and fellows to support a parallel learning track focused on quality, performance improvement and patient safety principles and methodology

 Project Management

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for educational initiatives/projects involving development of a performance excellence culture, performance improvement methodology, patient safety, performance outcomes and analytics by working closely with teams to develop relevant education materials and structure.
  • Support projects by providing performance improvement and change-management expertise for successful implementation and sustainment.
  • Utilize project management methodologies to lead teams through a successful project life cycle from project request through hand-off and diffusion of learning

Marketing & Promotion

  • Collaborate with corporate marketing team to ensure consistency of image and branding across all Academy materials (professional appearance, consistent format)
  • Promote professional growth, development and accountability in team members and colleagues.
  • Equip and nurture a culture of performance excellence at all levels of the organization.
  • Collaborate with Organizational Effectiveness and Methodist University to ensure common messaging and effective utilization of resources and medium for delivering training, scheduling courses and maintaining verification of completion

Supervision

  • Lead Entity Liaison(s) to facilitate training, serving as a subject matter expert to review educational materials to ensure relevance and accuracy of existing content while maintaining a mindset focused on continuous improvement mindset
  • Coach, mentor and develop team members and colleagues to encourage and maintain a highly reliable learning organization.
