Your Job: 
In this highly technical, fast-paced, and challenging position, you'll collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide the very best care for our patients. The Coder II classifies and abstracts inpatients / outpatient diagnoses and procedures which are assigned appropriate ICD10-CM, ICD 10 PC and/or CPT codes for optimal reimbursement. Establishes an accurate database for case mix indices and for statistical reporting and trend analysis. The Coder II is proficient in coding DRG based records as well as all other payers. 

Your Job Requirements:

  • High school Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Must have completed a certified coding program
  • Prefer an associate degree in Health Information Technology
  • RHIA, RHIT, or CCS preferred
  • Anatomy and Physiology with completion of an approved coding program (i.e. AHIMA certification, AAPC)
  • ICD-10 coding training required
  • Coding experience in an acute care setting with experience using an encoder
  • 1 Year work experience preferred

Your Job Responsibilities:

  • Identifies principal and secondary diagnosis and procedure codes on inpatients, ambulatory care, emergency room and ancillary outpatient records
  • Follows inpatient guidelines, reference and standards to contribute to the efficiency and productivity performance of the coding area.
  • Follows emergency room record guidelines, reference and standards to contribute to the efficiency and productivity performance of the coding area
  • Follows day surgery/wound care and observation guidelines, references and standards to contribute to the efficiency and productivity performance of the coding area
  • Abstracts pertinent information into mainframe database for reimbursement, management, reporting and medical staff credentialing
  • Expands job-related knowledge and skills to improve performance and adjust to changes or process improvement recommendation
  • Coordinates the billing process through interactions with medical staff physicians, Medical staff office personnel, business office and health information management staff.
  • Interact with Coder III in substantiating appropriate DRG code assignment
  • Assists with coding request for information via other departments
  • Assists with retrieval and questions regarding incomplete records for physicians
  • Assists with training of new employees, students and volunteers as needed
  • Performing locator audits
  • Providing technical and clerical support whenever and wherever needed
