Description/Statement of Purpose:

The Strategic Planning/Business Development Analyst (Analyst) supports strategic planning and business development efforts by key health system stakeholders such as the the Marketing Department, the Physician Practice Relations Department, and the Hospital Strategic Planning Department.  This includes research, design and production of data analyses, preparation of reports and presentations, and maintenance of a project management database.  The analyst will build and analyze data related to physician compensations plans, work RVU reports, Mayo Clinic Care Network utilization reports, hospital business productivity analysis, system referral and out migration reports, and compensation levels of staff.


The Analyst provides technical and analytic support for the system leaders to assist the Organization in achieving its strategic goals, responding proactively to market opportunities, and complying with regulatory requirements, such as the Certificate of Need process. The Analyst requires strong qualitative and quantitative skills including statistics, use of analytical tools and planning databases, knowledge of health care planning and marketing, finance and operational data, as well as strong computer skills.  The Analyst will also provide support to Service Line Directors, Department Managers, physicians, and other staff.  The Analyst must be able to multi-task and prioritize their assignments to meet the Planning Department and Organizational-wide needs.  

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • BS in Business, Finance, Accounting, Accounting Information Systems (or similar information systems degrees) or Health Care Management or equivalent finance or information systems experience in a healthcare environment

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and ability to learn new systems and provide appropriate technology support on those systems

  • Working knowledge of Finance or Accounting

  • Excellent organizational, communication (both written and oral,) and customer service/interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work with multiple and changing priorities

  • Work well under direct and indirect supervision, with broad guidelines and latitude across multi functional areas

  • Individual must demonstrate a high level of analytical skills with focus on business analysis and secondary focus on systems anlysis.

 Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • 2-5 Years of Information systems, financial analysis, or healthcare experience

  • Knowledge of health insurance industry.  Particularly claims data.

  • Experience with relational-database models, SQL Server, MySQL, MS Access, etc

  • Solid understanding or experience with decision support systems, business intelligence software, cost accounting principles, or accounting systems

  • Experience with creating executive-level reports, dashboards, metrics, filters, training other users and presenting to work groups required

  • Knowledge of LEAN Principles highly preferred
