Medical language specialist who interprets and transcribes dictation by physicians and other
healthcare professionals regarding patient assessment, work-up, therapeutic procedures, clinical
course diagnosis, prognosis, etc., in order to document patient care and facilitate delivery of
High school graduate or G.E.D. required.
Completion of a formal training program in Medical Transcription with coursework in medical terminology and anatomy.
Experience equal to one year in a related position or previous experience as a Medical
Certification as a Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) desirable
Must have knowledge of medical terminology, including laboratory and x-ray terminology, human
anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, surgical instruments, and current medical techniques
Must be capable of using correct grammar in transcribing reports without altering the meaning
or intent of the dictation.
Must have excellent spelling skills and comprehension of the definition of words and terms.
Typing speed of 65 wpm with accuracy.
Experience with word processing software and digitalized central dictation systems preferred.
Basic office and clerical skills required.
