High school graduate or GED equivalent. 

Prior experience in patient care and working with public preferred. 

Physically capable of assisting patients in and out of bed, onto stretchers and treatment tables, and transporting by wheelchair and stretcher.

Legible handwriting or printing with a high degree of accuracy regarding alphabetizing. 

Phone skills using multiple lines. 

Filing, flexibility and ability to prioritize responsibilities.

Ability to establish rapport with patients and co-workers.

Demonstrates ability to effectively perform diversified tasks.

Demonstrates ability to maintain a positive interaction with the public.

Experience with computers a must.

Demonstrates initiative and ability to work independently. 

BCLS requirement annually.


Under the direction of the Radiation Oncology Manager, but may receive instruction from clinical and support staff from within the department.

Has working contact with staff from various departments within the hospital, i.e., nursing units, Radiology, etc.

Exercises a courteous, pleasant and tactful approach to others in normal working conditions and in stressful situations.

Will be subject to multiple task requests.

Will be subjected to stressful situations and continual interruptions.

Works under a basic pressure element.

Works in well lighted and clean surroundings.

Cleans, maintains and supplies all transport equipment including portable oxygen.

Moves departmental supplies from the point where they were received to storage within the Department and replenishes departmental supplies.

Stores and files radiation oncology charts including expired patients.

Must be familiar with and adhere to isolation policies and procedures.

Creates registration information as received by the physician or individual requesting service.  Obtains patient signatures on registration forms pertaining to insurer.

On receipt of patient reports from Medical Transcription, copies and mails reports to requested locations within 24 hours.

Will retrieve patient information for written request by physician, staff, manager, Medical Records, or Business Office.

Enters daily billing via computer in a timely manner.

Greets patients and answers phone in a first-line position, guiding patients and calls to correct destination.  Attends to patient needs.

Other clerical (i.e., ordering general supplies, some meeting scheduling, picking up and sorting mail) or messenger duties as directed by professional staff.

Orders weekly dietary and paper supplies, maintains par levels.

Maintain neat and clean environment of waiting room.

Maintains coffee and nourishments for families.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
