This position is accountable to maintain and repair medical equipment, assuring efficient and safe operating condition and readiness. This position will support the mission, vision and values of Mary Washington Healthcare and must demonstrate a commitment of quality service to our patients, the public and our co-workers.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Assess, interpret, communicate, and document user and equipment needs in accordance with the Biomedical Services Equipment Management Program.
Participate in and seek out educational programs and technical experiences to increase professional competency and to meet personal and departmental goals.
Perform service evaluations, repairs and consultations on a billable basis outside the department in order to ensure effective customer service.
Interact daily with hospital department managers, equipment users, physicians and clinical staff concerning service and equipment issues. Communicate daily with Director, Biomedical Services on equipment issues.
Demonstrate an excellent overall working knowledge of all technical aspects related to biomedical equipment. Provide technical support and assistance to clinical staff and Biomedical Services Division technicians. Perform technician duties and functions as required.
Fulfill requirement to respond to equipment issues in a standby status. Effectively handle service emergencies.
Maintain repair records for medical equipment under contract.
Assist in ordering parts and supplies necessary for servicing medical equipment.
Work diligently with computers while displaying flexibility to new systems and programs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Two year degree in Biomedical Engineering or equivalent in work experience and special courses preferred.
Two to five years of related experience. Certification preferred.
Valid Virginia driver's license with acceptable driving record.
Additional Qualifications for Fredericksburg Ambulatory Surgical Center (FASC) (added March 2013):
Demonstrate an excellent overall working knowledge of all technical aspects related to biomedical equipment.
Valid Virginia driver's license not required.
Not requirement to respond to equipment issues in a standby status.
Additional Duties for Biomedical Technician at FASC (added March 2013):
Interact daily with hospital department managers, equipment users, physicians and clinical staff concerning service and equipment issues.
Communicate daily with Manager, Facility Operations on service fulfillment and equipment issues.
Provide technical support and assistance to clinical staff to ensure safe and effective use of equipment.
Perform technician duties and functions as required.
Monitors service life of key equipment and makes recommendations on necessary repairs and replacements.
Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team to ensure excellent patient safety and satisfaction, efficiency of operations, and physician satisfaction.
