This is an entry level position where the incumbent will learn the basic knowledge and skills, i.e. theoretical and practical, in the preparation of biological material for histological analysis/diagnosis.  The process involves the preparation of patient tissue or research tissue according to department procedures using a wide range and depth of technical and specialized techniques.  Supports continuous improvement of laboratory services with in The Nebraska Medical Center to ensure high quality and timely pathology information for a quality diagnosis.

Associates degree in biological science OR equivalent combination  of education/experience combined required.  (One year of education equals one year of experience.).  Previous experience in Histology laboratory is preferred. Certified as a Histotechnician (HT)-ASCP, Histotechnologist (HTL)-ASCP or Medical Lab Scientist (MLS)-ASCP or equivalent ( i.e. Medical Technologist (MT)-ASCP or Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS)-NCA prior to 2004; or have previously qualified as a technologist under 42 CFR.1433 published 3/14/90 [55 FR 9538] on or before 2/28/92) within 3 years of date of hire or transfer into position required. Have a basic understanding and knowledge of histopathological processes and tissue recognition, light microscope, digital camera system, automatic tissue processors, microtomes, centrifuges, analytical balance, automatic H&E strainers, automatic special strainers, biological safety hood, computer workstation, telecommunications system, time and attendance phone system, office equipment and supplies preferred.
