A. EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL:
1. PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Minimum of one year experience working in HIM nonprofessional positions to the extent that exceptional competency and proficiency are established and associated with the individual.
2. SPECIALIZED OR TECHNICAL EDUCATION REQUIRED: 2 or 4 year college degree with a minimum of 1 year health information management experience. Certification as an RHIT or RHIA preferred but not required.
3. SKILLS REQUIRED: Must have excellent organizational and analytical skills. Must have excellent long-range planning skills. Must possess excellent communication skills. Must be proficient as an instructor. Must be polite and professional and able to promote positive relations with medical staff, coworkers, patients and any other persons appearing at the Health Information Management Department. Must have leadership skills. Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment and multi-task. Must have a working knowledge of keyboards and computer systems used by HIM personnel. Use of Excel and Word required. Use of PowerPoint preferred.

Must be able to retrieve medical records from shelves, including climbing ladders. Must be able to lift at least 10 pounds in weight above shoulder level for filing purposes. Must be very flexible, able to withstand constant movement. Must be able to walk distances and push carts filled with charts. Must be able to sit for long periods when using computers.
