Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Float Pool

7 p.m. - 7 a.m., includes weekends

BLS for Healthcare Providers required
Current South Carolina LPN license required
2-4 years experience required

The Staffing One Solution department at Prisma Health is seeking LPNs to join our internal float pool during night shift hours. We are open to full time or part time. This opportunity would allow employees to see various acute care areas across our hospital system. 

Job Summary:

Provides nursing care to patients under the direct and indirect supervision of the registered nurse.  The State Board of Nursing recognizes the role of the LPN in assisting with assessment of the patient and collection of patient health data to be used for the complete physical assessment.  The analysis and synthesis of clinical information and the formation of problem statements and/or nursing diagnosis are ONLY in the scope of practice of the RN and may NOT be delegated to the LPN. An LPN may delegate nursing tasks to qualified personnel.

Collects health care data to assist in planning care of patients.

Administers medications and treatments as prescribed by authorized licensed personnel.

Implements nursing interventions and tasks.

Provides basic teaching for health promotion and maintenance.

Assists in the evaluation of responses to interventions.

Provides for the maintenance of safe and effective nursing care rendered directly and indirectly.

Participates with the other health care providers in the planning and delivering of health care.

Delegates nursing tasks to qualified others.

Performs additional acts that require special education and training and that are approved by the board including but not limited to intravenous therapy and other specific nursing acts.  (See references from the SC Board of Nursing called Advisory Opinion Supplement on Nursing Management of Invasive devices in controlled setting – catheter, lines and tubes). The additional acts must be defined by Prisma Health policy.


Education: Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.

Number and Type of Team Members Supervised: Non-licensed personnel.

Licensure, Registry, or Certification: LPN currently licensed in South Carolina. BLS or BCLS required.

Special Training: Must possess knowledge and skills necessary to treat patients; completion of I.V. therapy class
