Basic Life Support (BLS) Required

Performs any combination of following duties under direction of physician or physician extender to assist in examination and treatment of patients.
Interviews patients and records chief complaint on patient's chart.
Measures vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight and height, and records information on patients' charts.
Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients. Drapes patients with covering and positions instruments and equipment.
Hands instruments and materials to doctor as directed. Cleans and sterilizes instruments. Inventories and orders medical supplies and materials.
Under direct supervision, assists physician or physician extender with injections, procedures, treatments, patient education and routine tests.
Under direct supervision, may enter orders such as laboratory, radiology and referrals.
May under direct supervision of physician, operate x-ray, electrocardiograph (EKG), and other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests or calls medical facility or department to schedule patients for tests.
Notifies patient of lab results. May place and receive patient related telephone calls.
May routinely perform one or more of the following activities under general supervision: Schedule appointments, receive money for bills, keep x-ray and other medical records, perform secretarial tasks and complete insurance forms. May key data into computer to maintain office and patient records. May keep billing records, enter financial transactions into bookkeeping ledgers, and compute and mail monthly statements to patients.
Performs other duties as requested.
May require access to storage areas where medications are kept and carry out procedures that require the use of non-prescription medications.
Education: Associate's degree in Medical Assisting; or high school diploma or equivalent and appropriate experience
Experience: Previous Medical Assistant or related experience preferred
Licensure, registry or certification required: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by American Association of Medical Assistants; or Registered Medical Assistant by American Medical Technologists; or NRCMA by National Association for Health Professionals. Continuous active membership with accrediting association required. BLS or BCLS required.
