Performs technical duties pertaining to diagnostic tests defined as waived, moderate, and high complexity in all major areas of the laboratory (Hematology, Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Urinalysis, Serology, Microbiology, and Blood Banking) to provide diagnostic information to healthcare providers. Operates technical laboratory equipment and computers. Performs invasive and non-invasive procedures, and diagnostic testing. Assists manager and supervisor with leadership within the laboratory. Secondary functions include phlebotomy.
Required: Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology (MT), Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), or Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) from a NAACLS accredited program or equivalent. Qualifies as a Clinical Laboratory Practitioner, Laboratory Technician as defined in WV Health Legislative Rule 54-CRS-57 (1998). Computer experience. Must be able to operate the Laboratory Information System (LIS). Currently registered or eligible for registration by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent registering agency. Must meet all CLIA requirements set forth by 493.1423 for moderate complexity and 493.1489 high complexity (Testing Personnel), WV State Health, and the American Association of Blood Banking (AABB). Must qualify as a Clinical Laboratory Practitioner, Laboratory Technician or Laboratory Technician Trainee in WV Health Legislative Rule 64-CRS-57 (1998). New graduates may substitute Clinical Laboratory Practitioner, Laboratory Technician Training License.
Preferred: Previous experience in phlebotomy.
