Performs a wide range of Health Information Management duties including coverage in assembly and analysis, file and retrieval, chart completion, scanning and indexing, and release of information. The HIM Specialist is Instrumental in the Electronic Health Record conversion. The HIM Specialist keeps abreast of national HIM standards and new technology in accordance with AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association).
Apply the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to individual patient health information for data retrieval and analysis and claims processing.
Required: High School Diploma. One to two years of experience or a RHIT certification. Ability to work with Electronic Health Record System. Knowledge of ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM and CPT coding and correct coding guidelines. Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs. Accuracy in Keyboarding, Data Entry, ability to type at least 30 wpm
Preferred: Associates Degree in Health Information Technology. Bachelor of Science in Allied Health. RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CCA, CPC, or CPC-H Certification. Knowledge of 3M encoder. Knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology. One to two years of ICD-9-CM and CPT coding.
