  • Primary Responsibilities:

    Responsible for clerical, secretarial and customer service needs of the Home Medical Equipment Department of Home Health Services. Works using computer information systems, telephone communication systems, specialized reimbursement processes and required medical documentation to support the provision of medical equipment for home use. With regards to patients served, the process of admitting, order processing, medical documentation, preparing related reports and insurance verification is to be performed on a daily basis to ensure proper billing of patients receiving services provided by the HME department. Provides instruction, consultation and fitting for breast prosthesis products to post-mastectomy patients. Other responsibilities include maintenance of the HME information system for all equipment and deliveries via computer systems. Prepares and distributes daily, weekly, monthly and annual reports as assigned including daily home deliveries. Maintains confidentiality and other ethical standards consistent with hospital policy and applicable laws.

    Qualifications:

    Consistently demonstrates principles of Courtesy, attitude, respect and enthusiasm (C.A.R.E.) in all interactions internal and external. One to two years of clerical/secretarial experience specializing in home medical equipment reimbursement services. 3. Demonstration of knowledge and application of current Durable Medical Equipment Regional Carrier (DMERC) medical policies, Medicare payment policies, private insurance reimbursement practices and contractual health maintenance organization practices. 4. Typing speed of 45-50 words per minute. 5. Ability to answer and route telephone calls appropriately. Demonstration of ability to work knowledgeably with personal computer using Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office and HME specific software systems. 6. Knowledge of medical terminology required. 7. Will successfully complete Reid Hospital & Health Care Services computer classes. 8. Must be able to read, write, and speak English. 9. Successful completion of Reid Hospital & Health Care Services orientation and competency based skills appropriate for the job. Individual performance and competency based skills are maintained through ongoing assessment of competence and educational activities. Written performance evaluations are done on an annual basis. 10. Ability to instruct patients with post-mastectomy needs specifically, breast prosthesis consultation.
