Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, VA is currently seeking a full-time Cytology Supervisor.
Job Summary: The Microbiology and Transfusion Services supervisors work under the supervision of the Director of the Laboratory. The Cytology, Histology and Core Lab supervisors work under the supervision of the Managers in those areas. Each position supervises and manages all technical aspects of the laboratory disciplines contained in the area of responsibility. The supervisor maintains and improves standardized systems to support the accurate, timely and reliable services to patients and healthcare providers. Coordinates accurate and complete documentation, training, accreditation, and inspection process; quality control review and response; annual competency assessments; continuing education and employee performance evaluations for work group. The supervisor keeps procedure manuals complete and up to date. Also ensures that patient identification and labeling is performed according to College of American Pathologist (CAP) and Joint Commission standards. The supervisor performs routine and complex laboratory tests using established analytical procedures, techniques and instruments. Additionally, the supervisor is responsible for employee's adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures; and maintains appropriate staffing and fair scheduling of all employees within area of responsibility. May perform other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree preferred.
Certification: CT (ASCP) certification required for Cytology.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of clinical laboratory experience in area of responsibility required, with at least 2 years of supervisory experience preferred. Ability-operate technology/equipment consistent with current industry standards. Working knowledge of computers with proficiency utilizing office programs such as Microsoft Office. Knowledge of personnel administration, laboratory economics and legislative requirements.
