Job Summary: The Medical Technologist (MT) performs technical procedures in such areas as Hematology, Chemistry, Serology, Blood Bank, Point of Care Testing, Urinalysis and Microbiology according to established Protocols and standard operating procedures. The Medical Technologist performs routine maintenance of departmental equipment and procedures to include inventory control, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting. The position participates in all aspects of Proficiency testing and in maintaining a constant state of readiness in the department to meet all Standards for accreditation from College of American Pathologist (CAP), Joint Commission, State, OSHA, AABB, CLIA, etc. The medical technologist assists in the training of new and existing personnel as well as students. The medical technologist may perform specimen collection, specimen processing and phlebotomy as applicable. May perform other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelors degree in Medical Laboratory Technology; Clinical Lab Science or equivalent degree in health science. Alternative must meet eligibility requirements for ASCP.
Certification: ASCP registered MT or eligible or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in clinical laboratory preferred. Ability to operate technology/equipment consistent with current industry standards. Working knowledge of computers. Must be able to evaluate culture plates and perform AST.
Hours: Rotating days, weekends and holidays.
