Job Summary: This position performs procedures in the Histology department according to established protocols and standard operating procedures. The Histotech is responsible for the preservation of tissue samples in the proper preservative/fixative. The Histotech also is responsible for the embedding, cutting and staining of tissue per specialized techniques. The Histotech is involved in the routine maintenance of departmental equipment and procedures to include inventory control, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting. In some cases the Histotech will be involved in the grossing/dissection and dictation of gross descriptions of surgical and/or autopsy specimens. May perform other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree preferred.
Certification: HT(ASCP) or equivalent certification preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience is preferred. Ability-operate technology/equipment consistent with current industry standards. Working knowledge of Computers
