Job Summary: Works under the supervision of the Charge RN/Nursing Supervisor/Nurse Manager/Director in personal care of the patients and their environment, including those needing special precautions. This position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to support/provide care appropriate to the age of the patient/resident served on unit assigned. The individual must have knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's/residents status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's/resident's requirements relative to age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the departmental policy and procedure guide.
Other Skills: Must be able to document legibly; must be able to manipulate and operate vital sign equipment; must be able to operate computer, must be able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to demonstrate excellent communication, organizational and leadership skills. Must be able to move quickly between patient care areas, must be able to bend, reach and lift light objects to provide patient care activities; must be able to sit for one hour periods of time; must be able to physically assist with seclusion and restraint. Must be able to observe and evaluate patient's status and needs; must be able to select appropriate intervention and evaluate outcomes; must be able to plan and supervise daily patient activities, groups, and special programs; must possess excellent organizational and problem-solving skills; must be able to work independently; must be able to communicate clearly and have exceptional interpersonal skills; must possess leadership skills, act as a role model and teach co-workers. Must be able to visualize and hear to monitor/assess patient status and safety of patient environment.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
Certification/Licensure: Current BLS is required within 10 days of hire. Valid Virginia drivers license and DMV record with a positive standing preferred.
Experience: Experience in behavioral health preferred.
