Riverside's Child Development and Learning Center located in Newport News, VA, is currently seeking Teacher Assistants to join their team.
The Teacher Assistant works under the supervision of the Lead Teacher or Teacher. Carries out assigned duties, which may include, but are not limited to, the personal care, discipline, hygiene, learning, and developmental activities of children in their care, preparation for and implementation of activities, and maintaining cleanliness, decorations, and safety of the classroom. Ensures compliance with Virginia State Licensing regulations. Works within the philosophy, vision, and objectives of the Riverside Child Development & Learning Center and Riverside Regional Medical Center.
Education: High School Diploma or GED is required. Must be at least 16 years of age (HS Diploma/GED is not required if under 18). CDA or other certificate program in Early Childhood Education preferred.
Licensure/Certification: CPR and First Aide must be obtained within 90 days of employment and maintained current through employment. Employees 21 years or older may be required to drive the center's van to transport children on field trips, etc and if so, must provide a valid Driver's License. In addition, they must provide and maintain an excellent driving record.
Experience: Minimum 6 months previous child care experience; in-home or professional environment required. Experience working with infants highly desired. Ability to create and prepare for developmentally appropriate activities for assigned age group. Must demonstrate ability to effectively manage a classroom in the absence of the Lead Teacher. Must be able to use effective age appropriate and constructive discipline techniques with children as required. Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm, 12:30 pm-6:30pm, 1:30pm to 6:30pm or 2:00 pm-6:00pm
