Riverside Regional Medical Center located in Newport News, VA, is currently seeking Cooks to join their Nutrition Services Team.
The RHS Food Service Cook I is at the forefront of customer service, providing patients and guests with service above and beyond expectations to ensure a memorable food and dining experience. Works under the supervision of the Executive Sous Chef and Executive Chef and/or Director. Prepares food items for both patient and non-patient food services, following all production plans and recipes to meet guidelines established by the Department management team and regulatory standards. Completes prep work, including, but not limited to, slicing lunch meat, chopping vegetables, preparing salads and sandwiches, short order grill cook, specialty pizza prep etc. Prepares all special request food items as necessary. Serves on the patient trayline and cafeteria serving line using proper portion control and plating techniques. Demonstrates the knowledge of basic food preparation techniques including receiving, storing, preparation, holding and chilling of food items. Possesses a basic knowledge in preparing foods to meet the needs of therapeutic diets. Possesses knowledge of weights and measures as it relates to volume measurement. Operates large volume cooking equipment, such as grills, steamers, ovens and deep-fat fryers. Demonstrates a working knowledge of food service sanitation practices and food safety guidelines. Maintains overall cleanliness of food production work areas. Performs other duties as assigned. Promotes and maintains a safe work environment for staff as well as our customers.
EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED preferred. Formal training as a prep or short order cook preferred.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: ServSafe Certification preferred. Food Handlers Card required.
EXPERIENCE: One to three years or more food preparation experience preferably in a high volume restaurant, hotel or healthcare kitchen.
