Job Summary: The Riverside Health System temporary student position program is a combination of mentoring, learning activities, and project work designed to give broad exposure to the inner workings of a health care system. This temporary program consists of various assignments throughout the health system combined with leadership development opportunities. Students serving in this role will be expected to participate in completing projects for the health system with minimal supervision. Students will be assigned to one department or facility for the entire program where they will work under the supervision/mentorship of an experienced Business Unit Leader. Additionally, they may have the opportunity to attend training and development meetings in an environment with other students/administrative residents. Students may work in the following functional areas, hospital/facility/clinic administration, finance, information technology, marketing/communications, or human resources.
This position entails working with the leadership of Riverside's Accountable Care Organization/Medicare Shared Savings program to analyze claims and eligibility data to identify key trends in the areas of demographics, referral patterns, cost drivers, provider variation and utilization across the continuum. Assists in the development of new reporting for use by ACO. Develops business case/ROI for business opportunities identified by analyses. Presents findings to ACO leadership.
Educational Requirements: Minimum GPA – 3.0 preferred. Completed one year of a Master's level program – verified by current college transcripts. Must be currently enrolled in a Master's program to participate in this program.
- Ability to analyze and model data using MS Excel, Access, and/or other data ware house analytical tools preferred.
- The intern should possess solid research and analytical skills as well as the ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally to a variety of audiences.
- Strong leadership skills required. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage projects independently. Demonstrated work ethic, goal orientation, and academic success. Other demonstrated experience / skills include:
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills
o Strong interpersonal, analytic, critical thinking, and self-management skills
o Computer literate with proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, must at minimum be comfortable with MS Excel and building pivot tables. MS Access experience a plus. SQL experience a plus.
o Must have reliable transportation to Newport News, Virginia
Hours: day shift 30-40 hours per week. Candidates must be able to commit to work approximately 8-12 weeks May through August 2018.
