Sanders Retirement Community is seeking an experience recreation therapy professional to join our team as Household Mentor – Life Enrichment.


Job Summary: The Household Mentor works in partnership with the Household Nurse Mentor to promote resident and guests well-being and satisfaction by supporting resident-guest directed care. The Household Mentor provides leadership to the household team, keeps the overall functioning of the household running smoothly, and fortifies the vision of the household. The Mentor supervises employees within the scope of licensure and household responsibilities. As a working leader, the Household Mentor performs tasks essential to the direct care of the residents and guests according to facility and RHS policies and procedures. The Mentor assures the household's ability to plan and carry out interests and social activities to meet resident and guest wishes and to promote the psychosocial well being of all residents and guests. The Mentor facilitates a real team approach that empowers staff, residents and guests to make autonomous decisions. As an employee of the household, the Household Mentor is considered a versatile worker and is cross-trained in different functions of the household within scope of licensure (if applicable) in order to meet resident and guest needs as they occur.


Educational Requirements: Prefer a 4 year college degree with course work in Recreation Therapy, Gerontology, Education, Mental Health, the Arts or other related field. Upon employment must be willing to complete the Social Service Designee course. 


Certification/Licensure Requirements:

·         Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or Certified Activity Director required to obtain within 90 days of hire.

·         Heart Saver AED (AHS) is required within 30 days of hire.

·         Current and valid Virginia driver's license with acceptable driving record is required.

Experience: Two years leadership experience preferably in senior living, family and aging services, mental health, children's services, the arts, or teaching.
