Job Summary: Installs repairs and replaces pipes, fittings and plumbing fixtures to maintain the heating, water, and drainage systems throughout the hospital. This includes, but is not limited to heating hot water supply and return piping, domestic hot and cold water piping, gravity sewer piping, forced sewage main lines, sewage lift stations, rain leader and storm piping, low pressure steam and condensate piping. Measures, shapes and threads pipes and fixtures. Ability to solder, sweat and braze. Prepares areas where plumbing work is to be performed by taking apart and securing current systems. Plans the installation of new plumbing by reading blueprints/schematics to determine how and where to place the piping. Fixes and/or replaces broken pipes and fixtures in a fashion that prevents leaks. Tests piping lines to ensure they can maintain the proper amount of pressure. Fixes steam systems/boilers by repairing pumps and heat exchanges, removing and replacing coils and replacing valves and associated equipment. Frees clogged drains.
Education: High School graduate or GED equivalent preferred. Graduate of a trade or vocational school with courses in plumbing and blueprint reading.
Certification: Journeyman's plumbing license preferred.
Experience: Two years experience in commercial or residential plumbing or completion of approved apprenticeship in plumbing. Ability-operate a computer and use computer software.
