EDUCATION: High school education or equivalent. Graduation from an approved program for Operating/Surgical Technician in accordance with state requirements. Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the pre-school, school-age, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient population as specialty assignment dictates.
EXPERIENCE: Experience in patient care as obtained through completion of an ORT or surgical technology program. Experience with care, handling and assembly of surgical instrumentation, sterilization practices and surgical supplies.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION: Certification as Operating Room/Surgical Technician by the Association of Surgical Technologist or U.S. Military Services. Current CPR/Basic Life Support certification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide technical services and maintain competency as required to effectively and efficiently work multiple assignments, including decontamination and cleaning reusable items, packaging sets and trays of instruments and supplies, sterilizing and distributing of sterile and non-sterile supplies.
- Exhibits knowledge of technical skills required to implement patient care and OR Tech services as demonstrated through the sterilization and utilization of equipment, instruments and supplies and the preparation of the OR and providing patient care activities.
- Demonstrates interpersonal skills to work within a team environment with the ability to communicate effectively/professionally with hospital staff, patients, family, visitors, and physicians under routine and stressful situations
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Exposure to blood/body fluids and infectious agents. Constant standing, walking, lifting, pushing and bending. Heavy Work - Exerting up to 150 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 75 pounds frequently, and/or up to 30 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
