    JOB SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  Assists in preparing the operating room and performing assigned support duties during operative procedures.  Scrubs in the role of second or third assistant when directed.

     

    1.         Assists in preparing the operating room, providing intraoperative care to patients and performing assigned support duties during operative procedures within established standards and practices. 

    a.    Checks supplies/instrumentation and equipment needs for operative procedure and ensures they are working properly.

    b.    Provides sterile field.  Maintains linen, supplies and instruments needed for successful completion of scheduled procedures.

    c.    Assists in the preparation, draping and positioning of patients for procedure.

    d.    Participates in the post-operative cleanup of the OR room and restock of surgical area.

     

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

     

    EDUCATION:  High school education or equivalent.  Graduation from an approved program for Operating/Surgical Technician in accordance with state requirements.  Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the pre-schooler, school-age, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient population as specialty assignment dictates.

     

    EXPERIENCE:  Experience in patient care as obtained through completion of an ORT or surgical technology program.  Exhibits knowledge of technical skills required to implement patient care and OR Tech services as demonstrated through the sterilization and utilization of equipment, instruments and supplies and the preparation of the OR and providing patient care activities.  Demonstrated interpersonal skills to work within a team environment with the ability to communicate effectively/professionally with hospital staff, patients, family, visitors, and physicians under routine and stressful situations

     

    LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION:  Certification as Operating Room/Surgical Technician by the Association of Surgical Technologist or U.S. Military Services.  Current CPR/Basic Life Support certification.
