  • JOB SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs noninvasive diagnostic echocardiogram procedures and studies as directed and according to established standards and procedures.  Provides on-call and callback coverage as required. 


    1.            Reviews patient's medical record prior to each testing to obtain and record identifying information required for the echocardiogram and patient records.  Demonstrates knowledge and skills and maintains competencies required to provide care appropriate to age of the patients served within department.


    2.            Informs and explains echocardiogram assessment purposes and procedures to the patient prior to commencement of testing in a caring, compassionate, and sensitive manner.


    3             Administers echocardiogram as ordered by physician, consistent with patient care policies and procedures, demonstrated competencies, and with consideration given to risk management, infection control practices, patient safety practices and departmental activities.


    4.            Confers and works collaboratively with patient/family/hospital staff in a customer responsive and courteous manner, in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction to achieve positive patient outcomes.



    MACHINES OR EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Various ultrasound equipment, clinical equipment and computer systems.




    EXPERIENCE:  Twelve (12) months experience performing adult and/or pediatric echocardiograms including on the job training in echocardiography provided by a registered echocardiographer in lieu of ARDMS certification.  Exhibits knowledge of technical skills required to implement patient care and diagnostic cardiology services as demonstrated through practices, non-invasive echocardiogram procedures/testing and recognizing abnormal and technically inadequate results.  Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively/professionally with hospital staff, patients, family, visitors, and physicians under routine and stressful situations. 


    LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION: ARDMS Certification (American Registry of Medical Sonographers) preferred.  Current CPR/BLS/ACLS certification required.
