Reporting to the Clinic Director, primary responsibilities include the assignment of ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 codes, evaluation and management (E/M) codes, and modifiers, to abstract and codify surgical outpatient, inpatient, and ambulatory procedures and consultations from Operative notes, office notes, diagrams, and imagery. Direct contact with physicians, nursing and outside organizations required. Responsible for proper billing and charge posting for professional services received. Performs benefit pre-certification and authorizations with insurance and managed care utilization managers as required. Answers patient billing inquiries and performs all billing functions. High School diploma, or equivalent, required. Associate’s Degree preferred. Certified procedural coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required. Knowledge of federal coding regulations and modifiers as well as previous office-coding experience preferred. Ability to learn and proficiently use BAR and LSS routines of Meditech (Medical Information System) are required.
