Patient Access Specialist

Job Details:

High school diploma or equivalent required.  Must possess excellent communication and customer service skills.  Typing skills required.  Minimum 4 years experience in a hospital setting required.  ICD-9 and CPT 4 coding skills required.  Previous knowledge of all 3rd party payors.  Must have ability to work independently with little or no direct supervision.  Must have ability to work in stressful situation.  Must possess excellent multi tasking skills.

Responsibilities include: Conduct patient/guarantor interviews for all Inpatient, Outpatients & Emergency Care registrations. Explain hospital policies, financial responsibilities, and obtain all required signatures.  Ensure all patients in the waiting area are accounted for and provided timely service to assure patients arrive to appointments on time or in ECC to ensure that patient's receive an emergency medical screening as quickly as possible.  Assure that all demographics and financial data is obtained and entered in the Star System in an accurate and timely manner.  Verify all appropriate accounts; ensure validity of financial information and identify appropriate payor source for Third Party Billing. Ensure that pre-certification and/or authorization is obtained to comply with insurance company policies.  Take all necessary steps to protect the patient and hospital from unnecessary financial loss.  Determine estimated patient financial responsibility throught verified insurance benefits, co-pays and deductibles, and calculate estimated self pay portions (based on fee schedule) to be collected at time of registration. Promote the safety and well being of all patients and guests and ensure that all patients are registered in a manner compliant with all Federal and State regulations.
