We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Physical and Health Education Teacher! The PE Teacher will support three of our Day School Programs where students with autism are served. These programs are: Forbush School at PG County (2 days per week), Forbush School at Oakmont Upper School (1 day per week) and our Forbush School at Hunt Valley (2 days per week). Hired individual must be comfortable traveling to these three locations on a regular basis.
The PE & Health Teacher is responsible for teaching of physical and health education classes and activities of all students within the three day school programs. The hired individual will demonstrate knowledge of age-specific student needs in instruction and create an appropriate learning environment in the school setting. Monitors, evaluates, and reports on students' progress and also attends and participates in meetings and works cooperatively with other members of the School staff.
Requires: Bachelor's degree and at least 3 months of related teaching experience (i.e. student teaching, internships, etc.). Must have or be eligible for a conditional, standard professional or advanced certification with Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) at time of appointment. Candidates with a conditional certification must obtain standard professional or advanced certification within two to four years of starting in teaching role, as determined by MSDE evaluation of the individual's credentials. Must maintain MSDE certification requirements throughout tenure in position. Current certification in Physical Education and experience with working with children/adolescents with autism who are low functioning/non-verbal and have severe emotional/behavioral issues strongly preferred.
