Summary: The Youth and Family Counselor is responsible for providing long-term mental health counseling to school age youth and their families referred to the program. The position involves collaborative work with school counselors and other community agencies to provide individual, family and group counseling; skill development groups; parent/ community education programs; information and referral to needed services; substance abuse screening/ assessments; and school/community outreach. CSYS programs are designed to strengthen families, build resilience, develop pro?social skills and attitudes and minimize the influence of street gangs, bullying, negative peer pressure and drug/alcohol use. 

Clinical Responsibilities:

• Complete mental Health and/or substance abuse assessments of school age youth
• Provide individual, group and family counseling
• Follow up on counseling referrals
• Lead therapeutic and psycho-educational groups in schools or community-based settings
• Consult with parents, school staff, and/or medical providers regarding client progress
• Make referrals for individuals/family treatment (for those with access to outside resources)
• Attend school and parent meetings (EMT, ARD, suspension, etc.) as needed
• Conduct community outreach via workshops/presentations, participation in community committees/workgroups, and outreach fairs
• Provide Crisis intervention and referral for extended services
• Maintain a minimum caseload of 20 individual/family clients or groups (one group is always equivalent to 2 clients)

Administrative Responsibilities:

• Maintain client's charts (to include all required clinical and administrative documentation, and data entry into the EVOLV electronic health record system)
• Complete all mandatory electronic (Relias) trainings on time
• Compile weekly staff records/statistics
• Attends weekly supervision, staff meetings, and participates in relevant staff training

Requirements:

• Master's degree in mental health field and a graduate level license (LMSW/LGPC/ LGMFT) in the State of Maryland.
• Must have earlier experience providing early intervention services to low income youth/families from diverse backgrounds.
• Requires own transportation, excellent verbal & written communication skills and strong knowledge of family systems.
• Independent and flexible work style preferred; must be a team player and have a strong desire to work in community-based setting.
