    Job Summary: The Centralized Access Scheduling Specialist performs a variety of clerical, reception and administrative tasks: answers and screens phone calls, takes messages, schedules appointments and pre-registers patients. Reviews accounts for outstanding guarantor balances prior to making reminder calls to patients and make them aware of any outstanding balances due, reminding them to bring insurance cards and copays to the appointment and verify demographics. Will work with the patients by telephone in a fast- paced call center environment.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Reads, speaks, understands and writes proficiently in English. Work independently and is self-directed. Ability to make independent decisions and work in a team environment. Organizes and prioritizes and coordinates multiple activities and tasks. Works with high initiative, energy and effectiveness in a fast- paced environment. Produces work in high quantity and quality. Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Reacts calmly and effectively in high pressure and emergency situations. Problem solves with creativity and ingenuity. Proficiency in the use of multiple software systems, including but not limited to EHR, billing systems, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. Knowledge and comfort with computerized billing system desirable.

    Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Two years of college or two years physician practice experience preferred.

    Experience: Customer Service related experience working with general public, clerical, reception, medical assisting, administrative or secretarial experience in healthcare insurance organization preferred. Experience working in telephone call center environment preferred. Experience working with low income, multi-ethnic populations preferred. A 60 to 90 day on the job training on a billing system to become familiar with billing policies and procedures required.

    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Requires prolonged sitting and frequent use of the telephone and computer. Requires ability to distinguish letters and symbols and the use of computer terminal or personal computer. Requires normal vision, hearing and ability to communicate effectively both orally and written. The general environment is clean and comfortable temperature and moderate noise level.
