    Job Summary: Provides a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Protects hospital assets and confidential information.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Strong communication skills (verbal, written, listening) are essential, Strong ability to deal with the public and to make decisions is required, Must be able to recognize real and potential hazards.

    Education: Minimum required experience is a high school education or equivalent, Specialized safety/security training is preferred. Continuing education will require the IAHSS Basic Certification and Advanced Certification in the time frame specified by the Manager.

    Experience: Previous healthcare safety and security experience is preferred, Previous retail, industrial, military and/or police experience may be helpful.

    License/Certification/Registration: Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.

    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Prolonged standing/walking, must be able to climb stairs and penthouse ladders as a matter of routine patrol and during emergency responses, must be capable of physically restraining combative/violent individuals, works both inside and outside facility building during all types of weather, temperatures, humidities, etc..., must be capable of lifting/carrying weights of 75lbs, the security officer's work environment encompasses the entire hospital complex (all buildings and grounds), regardless of the outside temperature or weather conditions, shift rotation is required, weekend and holiday scheduling possible, every possible effort is made to assure that required coverages are met and all staff receive time off when it is desired, contact with chemicals, blood and body fluid possible, safety equipment/standards are available and mandated.
