    Job Summary: The CT technologist provides outpatient and inpatient CT scan services using specialized technical instrumentation, under the direction of a Radiologist, in accordance with specific hospital and governing body standards.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: The CT technologist operates an x-ray scanner which creates a computer generated cross-sectional image called a CT scan. The CT tech must have the ability to assist the Radiologist in obtaining the necessary anatomical and pathological data, pertinent patient history, and supporting clinical data to diagnose a variety of conditions and diseases. Knowledge of CT instrumentation and physics, and the skill in applying principles, methods, and techniques to facilitate optimum diagnostic results. The ability to use independent judgment in recognizing the need to extend the scope of the procedure according to diagnostic findings. Skill to assist the Radiologist in invasive biopsy procedures. Must be able to interact compassionately and effectively with patients who range from healthy to the critically ill. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, files and statistics. Must maintain patient confidentiality. Ability to develop and maintain departmental quality assurance, and quality control standards. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff and the public. The ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. The ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines to procedures. Ability to communicate clearly. Commitment to life-long learning in order to maintain knowledge and expertise in this rapidly growing healthcare profession.

    Education: Must be a graduate of a Radiologic Technology program approved by the JRCERT/ARRT.

    Experience: One year experience working in the field preferred.

    License/Certification/Registration: Must be registered by the ARRT. Also certified in CT or eligible for CT certification and pass certification within 12 months of employment.

    Professional Affiliations: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) - mandatory ,American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT)

    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires a full range of body motion including positioning, lifting, and moving patients and equipment weighing over 100 pounds. Requires frequent stooping, bending, reaching, and walking and standing for extensive periods of time. Requires hand-eye coordination, manual and finger dexterity to operate scanning equipment controls, keyboards, etc. Requires visual acuity and depth perception to assess technical quality of images and the ability to distinguish audible sounds. Requires speech, written language skills and hearing to converse effectively with patients, other healthcare professionals and the public. Requires the ability to read and understand medical and technical instruction. Requires the operation of CT units, accessories, and film processors and the use of other equipment such as computers, telephones, bar-coders, and cameras. Requires working under stressful conditions with a working speed of approximately 15 minutes per examination. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is primarily performed in the CT/Ultrasound department on the Rural Avenue campus, Grampian Boulevard campus and in the Radiology department Muncy Valley Hospital. Department is kept cool due to the computer equipment, otherwise no unusual working conditions. Scheduled hours may be every day. ""On-call"" duty will be assigned. Scheduling subject to patient needs including emergency and disaster situations. Health hazards: job requires frequent contact with blood and body fluids. Risk is minimal if Blood and Body Fluid precautions are followed.
