  • The nursing supervisor is an entry level management position that is responsible for ensuring overall efficient and effective operations of the hospital.  Plays key role in staffing, patient flow, customer service, fiscal management, recruitment and retention, competency assessment, and continuing education.  Major Duties:  Meets organizational expectations as defined by the Employee Standards of Performance, hospital and department policies and procedures, and the hospital’s strategic goals.  Verbalizes a clear understanding of continuous quality improvement and customer satisfaction measures and actively participates in improvement initiatives.  Ensures that care is delivered to each patient in accordance with LSBN Nurse Practice Act and current standards of care. Provides effective leadership to hospital staff.  Ensures staff compliance with hospital policies and regulatory guidelines.  Possesses strong and effective leadership skills.  Possesses ability to adapt to changes in healthcare.  Possesses ability to multitask.  Demonstrates accountability for job performance.  Promotes positive customer relations.  Functions effectively in crises.  Reviews unit staffing at specified intervals.  Makes appropriate changes to staffing based on acuity, census changes, etc.  Obtains needed items from ancillary departments ( Medical Records, Central Services, Nutritional Services, etc) in their absence.  Responsible for accurately effecting interfacility transfers.  Maintains timely and accurate records via electronic and paper media.  Assigns beds.  Screens admits for appropriate placement.  Participates in quality assurance/performance improvement initiatives.  Participates in staff education and competency maintenance.  Communicates effectively with staff, managers, members of the administrative team, community leaders, and regulatory representatives.  Responds to customer service needs.  Participates in internal/external disaster management as directed.  Education/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:  Preferred:  Specialty certification as defined by ANCC.  Knowledge of finance as it relates to healthcare operations.  Previous experience as an administrative supervisor.  Required:  Working knowledge of Med Surg, ICU, and ED.  Two years clinical experience in a Critical Care area (ICU or ED).  One year experience in a leadership position such as clinical coordinator or unit manager.  Familiar with operations of OR, ASU, Endoscopy, Cardiac Cath Lab, and other patient care areas not specified.  Demonstrated excellence in clinical skills.  Effective leadership and communication skills. Demonstrated critical thinking skills.  BSN preferred.  Required: Graduate of Accredited Registered Nursing program as recognized by the LSBN. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Louisiana.  ACLS, BCLS, PALS.  Licensure/Certification:  Current certification by AANA, Current La. R.N. and Advanced Practice licenses, Current ACLS & BLS
